Conservation Status

General Status in Canada Help: Secure

COSEWIC Status Help: Not assessed

The Veery has undergone consistent declines in recent decades, but no single causal factor has been identified. Possible causes of concern in the breeding range include, parasitism by Brown-headed Cowbirds (Molothrus ater), loss or fragmentation of preferred mature forest habitat, and the loss of understory vegetation due to browsing by over-abundant white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) populations.
