Gray-cheeked Thrush
Gray-cheeked Thrush Catharus minimus
Conservation StatusGeneral Status in Canada : SecureCOSEWIC Status : Not assessedPopulation trends are unknown for Gray-cheeked Thrush as Breeding Bird Surveys do not cover their northern breeding range. Christmas Bird Count data are also unavailable, because Gray-cheeked Thrushes winter mostly in the Amazon, where CBC surveys are not conducted. Most of the breeding area is in northern stunted forests and contains habitats typically not heavily harvested. In some areas, they may be affected by mining, oil and gas development, but these are unlikely to influence the overall population status. Wintering habitat requirements are poorly understood, but are thought to include the understories of mature, lowland rainforests. The loss of these tropical habitats due to deforestation probably has a negative impact on Gray-cheeked Thrush populations. Reference(s)Lowther, P. E., C. C. Rimmer, B. Kessel, S. L. Johnson and W.
