While forest loss and habitat modification likely have little impact on populations of this species, its use of human-modified environments may contribute to observed declines. Blue Jays are frequently killed as a result of collisions with windows, automobiles, and utility wires. One of the greatest threats to Blue Jays in urban environments is likely predation by domestic cats and dogs, especially during the fledgling period when immature birds are most vulnerable.
