General Status in Canada Help: Secure

COSEWIC Status Help: Not assessed

Despite being one of the most plentiful bird species in North America, the Dark-eyed Junco has been undergoing consistent and marked declines. Given the generalist nature of the species and apparent relative security of habitat throughout the annual cycle, there is little evidence as to what mechanisms are responsible for these observed declines and additional study is needed to identify the potential reasons.
