Conservation Status

General Status in Canada Help: Secure

COSEWIC Status Help: Not assessed

The Song Sparrow is one of the most intensively studied songbirds in North America. Consequently, many aspects of its basic ecology and natural history are well documented. Although some populations have experienced more pronounced declines, most northern populations are relatively stable and do not pose a significant conservation concern. The use of early successional, disturbed, or even urban habitats highlights the species high degree of habitat plasticity.
