Conservation Status

General Status in Canada Help: Secure

COSEWIC Status Help: Not assessed

Given the species propensity to nest in disturbed areas, it is often referred to as a habitat generalist. Some studies, however, have suggested that the species might be a forest interior species, given its apparent area sensitivity and avoidance of small forest patches. While significant declines are occurring in eastern and southern portions of the breeding range, western populations are apparently stable.
