Great Crested Flycatcher
Great Crested Flycatcher Myiarchus crinitus
Conservation StatusGeneral Status in Canada : SecureCOSEWIC Status : Not assessedAlthough the Great Crested Flycatcher appears to be declining across portions of its breeding range, the potential cause for such declines is not clear. The removal of cavity trees and other standing dead material due to liability concerns in urban areas and with some industrial forestry operations may have reduced habitat availability. Fragmentation and the creation of habitat edge likely benefit this species. Given their propensity to use clearings and second-growth habitat on the wintering grounds, it is unlikely that habitat changes in the non-breeding season are completely responsible for observed declines in this species.
