Conservation Status

General Status in Canada Help: Secure

COSEWIC Status Help: Not assessed

Based on limited data from relatively few Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) surveys within the Fox Sparrow’s breeding range, the population status of the iliaca subspecies has remained stable in recent decades. Also, large portions of the breeding range of this species occur well north of most commercial forestry operations, so concerns on the breeding grounds may be minimal. As the species apparently prefers thick, scrubby habitats, their may be some benefit from forestry operations or recently burned forest.
