Conservation Status

General Status in Canada Help: Secure

COSEWIC Status Help: Not assessed

American Robin populations are abundant and have likely benefitted from urbanization and agricultural development, which has created more suitable breeding habitat, allowing distributions to expand. Overall, populations are secure; however one conservation concern is chemical pollution. American Robins are very susceptible to pesticides, which enter their diet through soft invertebrates. Increased mortality and reduced hatching success can result, so this species may act as an indicator of chemical pollution.
