Conservation Status

General Status in Canada Help: Secure

COSEWIC Status Help: Not assessed

Although not considered to be a species of conservation concern, the Red-eyed Vireo does respond negatively to the creation of large open gaps in forest stands and to high rates of forest fragmentation. The species’ propensity to utilize urban parks and to quickly recolonize cutover areas would suggest that it may be less sensitive to forest loss and fragmentation. Habitat on the winter grounds has not been extensively studied, though is believed to be secure.
