General Status in Canada Help: Secure

COSEWIC Status Help: Not assessed

Breeding Bird Surveys indicate that North American populations significantly increased between 1966 and 2007. Deforestation and subsequent regeneration of young forests (both on the breeding and wintering grounds) is a likely contributing factor to this species apparent success. The Philadelphia Vireo is known to collide with lit transmission towers during its nocturnal migrations. Habitat fragmentation due to forestry, gas and oil activities may increase the vulnerability of this species to brood parasitism by Brown-headed Cowbirds (Molothrus ater) and to egg and nestling loss from Gray Jays (Perisoreus canadensis) and other predators.
