Conservation Status

General Status in Canada Help: Secure

COSEWIC Status Help: Not assessed

The Mourning Dove population appears to be stable, based on survey-wide Breeding Bird Survey (BBS) data from the past four decades. Given the intense harvesting pressure on this species, management of the hunting season and bag limits is essential. In areas where declines have been observed, the loss of breeding habitat through changes in land-use activities and more intensive land use practices are thought to be responsible for these declines.
